Welcome Back to School!

Dear Parents,

We are very excited about the upcoming year in fourth grade! All of us have been working as a team to make this a successful year. The units of Land & Water, Magnetism & Electricity, Ecosystems, Regions of the United States and Illinois will be taught throughout the year to incorporate language arts, science and social studies.

We feel strongly that it is important for you to be as involved in your child's education as possible. Therefore, we encourage you to visit the classroom, volunteer when possible, and of course, contact us whenever you have questions or concerns. Additional involvement includes knowing your child's daily routine, what is expected of your child and how you can help.

To begin with, we have highlighted some important events, which will be consistent each week.

  • Spelling Tests - Each Friday a spelling test will be given.
  • Nightly Homework – Each night, your child will be responsible for completing homework given that day (this may include math Home Connection homework, Science, or Social Studies review). In addition, your child is expected to read 60 minutes every night and keep track of their reading.
  • Cloud Callout: Wear Gym Shoes on P.E. daysSpecials - Monday: Art or Music
Tuesday: P.E
Wednesday: Music or Art
Thursday: P.E./LMC
Friday: LMC/P.E.

**Please review the next two pages carefully with your child. It will make this year run much smoother. Thank you!

HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework will be given every night. The completion of homework is the responsibility of your child. We do understand that important family events do occur, and all we ask is that a note be sent explaining why the work was not completed. Please check your child's BOSS notebook daily and sign the assignment page when the work is completed. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN THAT ALL ASSIGNMENTS ARE COMPLETED! Homework is a review of what we have learned in school. Students who do not finish their daily work will be expected to finish the work at home in addition to the assigned homework. A set homework time should be established. Consistency is a key factor in the success of your child's education.

POSITIVE REINFORCEMENTS

In order for the class to run smoothly, a positive plan has been established within each classroom. Please review the rules below with your child. After you and your child understand what is expected, please sign the form at the end of this letter, and return it to school. It is a good idea to post school rules on the refrigerator or on a bulletin board at home for easy reference.

The following are our classroom and school wide expectations:

BE SAFE . . .BE RESPECTFUL . . . BE READY TO LEARN.

Students who behave appropriately may be positively rewarded with:

*Positive notes *Praise *PAWS

*Phone calls home *Prizes *Class Parties

PLEASE LEAVE THIS LETTER ATTACHED TO YOUR REFRIGERATOR FOR EASY ACCESS. THIS INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU ALL YEAR!!!

**Please return this last page signed by both parent and student. When you and your child sign the last attached sheet, you are telling us that you have read this newsletter together and understand all parts of it.
