Welcome to Grove Avenue School

Our school has served as a recognized symbol of quality education for over fifty years in this community.  Our enrollment of over 520 children represents wide diversity in family background and cultural heritage.  Grove is the home of twenty-four kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms, including two dual language second grade classes where ninety percent of their day is taught in Spanish.

Our Grove Family is committed to attaining the goals in our mission statement…to respect the needs of each child and to create a nurturing learning environment that fosters compassion, curiosity, self-discipline, independence and confidence.  Our work leads to significant success because of the partnership we form with students, staff, parents and community members to get the job done.  We are never totally satisfied with our work because we know we can always strive for further greatness for a particular child or group of them.  This quest leads to growth and renewal every year for both educators and students.

In 2007 Grove Avenue School was designated as The Exemplary Program of Reading for the State of Illinois by the International Reading Association.  This is a significant honor celebrating the amazing celebration of reading that takes place every day at our school.  In 2007 we also won our second Blue Ribbon School Award from the Department of Education recognizing our excellence.  In addition, the Chicago Sun Times listed Grove as one of the top ten public elementary schools in the state during the last six years.

We are looking forward to another great school year in 2012-2013.  Every classroom at Grove now contains a SMART board which provides teachers with a highly interactive centerpiece for instruction.  Laptop computers are used by students throughout their school day; and our first graders are soaring with the use of their classroom iPads.
